7th Grade Reflection

7th grade. The year of changes…well at least in my opinion. When I first arrived in August, all I expected from 7th grade was A LOT more homework and more difficult classes but it turned out to be different. By October, my life had expanded, if that’s possible. I had started to acquire new friends and acquaintances. The amount of homework I received wasn’t too overwhelming and the classes weren’t that difficult. Eventually, I figured out that opening up and talking to more people can really alter your life. I eventually moved out of my friend group and into a new one. I am still good friends with everyone though. Now my new friends were amazing in all but they were distracting me. In seventh grade, I learned to always do my homework and study for tests even if it means to give up some time with my friends. All my attention was on my buddies and not much was on my studies, which effected my grades quite a bit.

As the year comes to an end I wish I cared more about my grades in the beginning of the year. I regret not putting a lot of effort into subjects like math and science. If I could replay the whole year I would try to overcome my shyness and make more friends. Also practice my cello a lot more! Some tips I’d give to next years seventh graders is if you do a sport for school next year do not I repeat DO NOT forget about your homework! Just because you had a basketball game does not mean you can skip doing your homework or studying for a test.

As I look over the year there were some ups and downs but I ended up with a lovely group of friends, a silly crush :D, and an astonishing amount of memories. All in all seventh grade was a pretty great year.

Fascinating Stars

“Nine thousand years ago there was a constellation in the sky named Scorpius that had just been formed,” Elle told the children huddled around the campfire.
A small hand shot up from the group and a little boy, no older then 6 asked,
“what’s a constellation?” Elle sat and thought for a couple of seconds trying to
think of an educated way to tell the children about constellations, but at the same time not bore them to death.
“Well my young grasshoppers, a constellation is a group of stars that identify
mythological creatures that once roamed the earth!” Elle said, twisting it only a little. Most of the children oooooooo’d and ahhhhhh’d wanting to hear about the constellations, especially the Scorpius one.
“Now, back to the Scorpius story. Scorpius was a giant-” Elle got cut off by the camp director coming in.
“Hiya Anthony! Need anything?” Elle asked, a little annoyed by the fact that he interrupted her story.
“Well I’m sorry to break up the fun but it’s time to go back to your cabins kids,” Anthony disappointedly said as he motioned all the sad and whiney kids back to their cabin. Elle sadly looked at Anthony, this was the last night at camp and all the kids would go home tomorrow! She would never be able to finish her story unless the kids came back next year. But still, she was quite disappointed in the fact that she could never finish her story to these children. Sighing, Elle gets up from the wooden log that her butt was occupying. She brushes off her nike shorts and tries to put out the fire with the bucket of water conveniently placed next to the fire pit. Most of the fire distinguishes but Elle steps on the remaining embers with her chacos. Elle jogs to catch up with her cabin group and starts to direct them back to the cabin. All she can think about is the next group she is going to have. Will they be nice? Rude? Funny? Sarcastic? Elle ponders this as they walk down the dirt path back to the main camp.

“Lights out guys!” Elle softly yells to the children. She goes and hits the lights making the room dark. Elle shuffles to her bed trying not to trip over anything she cannot see. She climbs into her bed and grabs her blanket lying it over her body. She looks around the cabin seeing the faint silhouettes illuminated by the moon. Sadly sighing she looks out of one of the many windows and into the mesmerizing night. Her dream was slowly coming true, teaching kids about the stars and space but not in a dull classroom. Elle turns her gaze out the window to her decorated bed. She thought since she’ll be here for the whole summer why not snazz it up a bit with some paper stars and tinfoil planets. She chuckles as she sees one of her favorite words on a stretched out star. Spaghettification was written in bold yellow letters that were stretched out almost like a noodle. It was ‘falling’ into a black hole, or what is really just a circle of black construction paper. Smirking a tad, Elle turns her attention back to the night sky. She searches for one of her favorite constellations. Spotting it she happily hums, the Cancer constellation is definitely one of her favorite constellations. The light snores of the children awakens Elle from her little dream. She realizes that she’ll have to get up quite early to get the kids ready for their departure of camp. Elle inhales and exhales slowly before falling into a lovely peaceful sleep.

My Favorite Poem

Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein
There is a place where the sidewalk ends
And before the street begins,
And there the grass grows soft and white,
And there the sun burns crimson bright,
And there the moon-bird rests from his flight
To cool in the peppermint wind.Let us leave this place where the smoke blows black
And the dark street winds and bends.
Past the pits where the asphalt flowers grow
We shall walk with a walk that is measured and slow,
And watch where the chalk-white arrows go
To the place where the sidewalk ends.Yes we’ll walk with a walk that is measured and slow,
And we’ll go where the chalk-white arrows go,
For the children, they mark, and the children, they know
The place where the sidewalk ends.
I picked this as my favorite poem because this was the first poem that really got me into to poetry. After I read this poem and the rest of the book, Where the Sidewalk Ends, I went on a poetry loving phase putting so many poems on my wall. The first poem to go onto my wall was of course, “Where the Sidewalk Ends”.

My Favorite Toy

When I was around the age five or six my brother and I got our first deck of Pokemon cards. Now this was big for me because I never got a lot of toys. All I really needed to play was my brother and sometimes we would play with his toys. Back to the point, I was really excited about this deck of cards.

Once my brother and I learned the rules of the game we started to battle each other! We would each take seven cards from our deck of sixty and then play our best card to ‘battle’. My brother would usually beat me since he was older and knew how to play much better then I did, but when I did defeat him I sure did celebrate! I would dance around and tackle him to the ground telling him in sing-song voice “I beat you! I beat you!” He would usually laugh then chase me around the house.

Now, after six years of harsh condition, my Pokemon cards are bent, torn, and scraped up. Most of them are actually missing, but whenever I do find one under my bed or in my brother’s room I remember how much fun I had with them.image

You Should Visit Texas Because…

It has Austin! The weirdest capital in the country :D.

Austin has a bunch of music such as ACL, a 3 day music festival with famous artists and lots of food, South by South West, a week long music festival (which is now the biggest music festival in the world!),  and Fun Fun Fun Fest, which has a lot of big bands and great music!

Austin also has amazing food. Barley and Swine, for example, is a fantastic restaurant with interesting food like duck, sweet breads, and rabbit. Also Uchiko which is a great sushi restaurant.

Austin, in my opinion, is known for its great food and awesome music, also for being weird And you should definitely visit it when you come to Texas!

Why Breakfast is Important

My stomach grumbles. My mom was right when she said to eat breakfast. Why did I miss the most essential meal of the day?!

Without breakfast you couldn’t make it to lunch! It’s the startingpoint of your day. breakfast provides the nutrients and energy you need. Last time I missed breakfast I was groggy, irreitible and had trouble focusing.

Futhermore, breakfast is the jump start to your day. It wakes up your brain. When you first wake up your eyes are open but your mind is still in lala and, dancing in a meadow of flowers, and you’d be like that till lunch! Imagine having a test. Studies show that kids who don’t have breakfast before a test don’t do as well as kids who do eat breakfast. When it comes to testing you do not want to be groggy.

Whether pancakes, waffles, or eggs breakfast gets you through the day. Breakfast-though delicious- is also important. So don’t forget your breakfast, it will save your day.

Cookies!…I think

Do you ever have a really bad sweet tooth but you have no sweets?! That’s what happened to me and my friend Saira.

After dinner Saira and I were surfing on the internet for things to do when a little light bulb popped above my head. “Why don’t we make cookies?!” I yelled jumping up and down, flapping my arms. Saira immediately agreed and we got to work…and by work I mean looking for anything to make cookies with. We look through cabinets, fridges, freezers, pretty much anything were you can store food! After 5 minutes of scavenging we finally got all the ingredients! “Wait, how do we make cookies?” I question. “WE SHALL LOOK UPON THE INTERNET,” Saira dramatically yells. “Okay, I’m trusting you,” I say as we dive into the pool of internet.

A few cracked eggs and flour fights later we have finally gotten the cookies into the oven. “What do we do now?” I ask. Saira points back to the computer and whispers, “Youtube.” I smile and rush over to the computer.

What seems like an eternity later we finally hear an amazing sound,”BEEP. BEEP. BEEP. BEEP. BEEP. BEEP” I jump in joy knowing the cookies are ready. Saira takes them out as I pull out a plate. When the cookies are on the plate Saira and I realizes they aren’t really cookies…they are more like scones! I grab one from the plate,”Hey if it’s sweet it’s good enough for me” I say as I take a bite out of the cookie.

The Song

The sound of the piano makes its way into my ears. Repeating over and over the same 2 notes create the beat of the song. Voices stumble into my head, singing lyrics softly and elegantly. I mindfully listen to the words. Starting slow the voices stay with piano, I start to nod my head with the beat as the cellos come in. I close my eyes listening to the melody. The emotion of the voices made an image in my head. Warm rivers crawl down my face as the voices start belting out the enchanting words. Then I hear the strong powerful note. It sounds like someone just lets everything out with that one note. The cellos, violins and violas pull through the bows with power.

That’s when I lose it.

Streams of tears cover my face, the song storms on. Trying to breathe in and out the words of the song slip out of my mouth, but they’re barely audible. I’m trying to hush myself, but the song is just too powerful. Suddenly, the song slows. It’s soft like the beginning. The words become gentle as the song exits my ear. Everything was gone, except for the delicate beat of the piano, over and over “bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum.” The last note dance out of my ears. My hand reaches for the mouse to hit replay.

TV Show Addictions

When you find a new TV show and you get hooked on it it’s like finding a black hole that’s sucking you in to a dark dungeon, never letting you escape until the show is over.

I recently found a show called “Sherlock” and oh…my…gosh. It’s so good! Even though it only has about 7 episodes (there is a new season coming out soon) it’s very interesting! You’re always getting surprised cause you have no idea what is happening!

If you aren’t addicted to a TV show, then you’re very lucky. ( side note: DON’T GET ATTACHED TO THE CHARACTERS IF YOU DO START WATCHING SOMETHING REALLY GOOD.) 😀

Thoughts…

I think about everything. Some things I over think, some I under think. I have the most spontaneous creative thoughts at 2:00 am! I grab a pen and paper, then start to draw or write. Thoughts about life, love, equality and about my future pop into my mind.

Some thoughts come within a dream or just talking to my friends. Does this happen to anyone else?
